Event: Living Systems, Aquatic Systems 2-6pm, 18th September 2016, Art Laboratory Berlin, Prinzenallee 34, 13359 Berlin
I’ll be joining Robertina Šebjanič and Regine Rapp at Art Laboratory Berlin on Sunday 18th September for our seminar on Living Systems, Aquatic Systems, moderated by Christian de Lutz. The event is part of Art Laboratory Berlin’s Non-Human Subjectivities curatorial programme and is in the frame of Šebjanič’s excellent solo exhibition, Aural Aquatic Presence.
I’ll be discussing the Coral Empathy Device, in the context of exploring interspecies empathy through artistic investigations into the marine environment and human perception. Drawing on an approach that melds together multiple knowledges, I will explain both the conceptual approach and my methodologies in the research and creation of a piece that challenges the audience physically to prompt a lived experience connecting human-in-air and coral-in-water.
